Emma Goldman came into prominence
during the early decades of the twentieth century as an anarchist,
free love advocate, and powerful exemplar of free speech. In some
respects she was a precursor of the modern women's movement. No one
has done more to keep the legend of Emma Goldman alive than Candace
Falk, through her indefatigable efforts as Director of the Emma
Goldman Papers Project and author of the fascinating biography
entitled Love, Anarchy, and Emma Goldman, which revealed the
private life of the public Emma Goldman. Throughout her
controversial public life and stormy private life, Goldman
maintained her courage and idealism, and that is the legacy that
Candace Falk has secured.
