April - TIIAP grant applied for (grant not received)

1996

Spring/Summer - SSDLC trial

Fall - DOE/LBNL [Deane Merrill, coordinator] gives up CD-ROM system.
UCB Library and UC DATA adopt three Sparc 1 machines with legacy UC CD-ROM Information system of approximately 240 discs on forty 6-disc changers.
UCB Campus gives $49,000 for data rescue, Library gives $50,000 for enhancements.
System moves to Sunsite [now at: http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/GovData/]

1997
May - Visit Oregon State University Goverment Information Sharing Project

June/July - Goldrush [Sun Ultra 1, Model 140] acquired, migrated hardware to Goldrush

Fall - Developed web look and feel
Upgrade to 1990 Census Lookup completed (compiler)

October - Begin discussions to purchase disc array.

1998
February 2 - Initial rollout of the Social Science and Government Data Library
Titles from the 1990 Census of Population and Housing include Summary Tape File 1; Summary Tape File 3; and Subject Summary Tape File 3, Persons of Hispanic Origin in the U.S.

April 24 - Social Science and Government Data Library--chosen as a selection for the Scout Report for Social Sciences (March 24, 1998),

June - Rollout of SSTF 5, Characteristics of the Asian and Pacific Islander Population in the U.S. (web interface)

September - Roll out of SSTF 2, Ancestry of the Population of the U.S. (web interface)

October - SSGDL Promotional Flyer developed.

October/November - Additional storage (110gb) purchased and installed.

1999

April - Roll out of SSTF 1, Foreign-born Population in the U.S. (web interface); TIGER/Line 1997 available for ftp

June - $20,000 from VCDL for 1980 and 1970 data rescue allotted.

2000

March - Final CD-ROM (45 CDs) migration from CD-ROM system for data to be available via ftp.

April - SEEDIS tar file of 1960 and 1970 Census Data transferred to Goldrush.

July/August - Goldrush (2), a Sun Ultra 10, acquired w/400gb additional storage space

2001
January - Metatags added to main webpages, (1990 Census) PL94-171 data added for ftp

February - Sun Ultra installed, (1990 Census) EEO files added for ftp

May - Economic Census files added for ftp

June - 1970 Census Fifth Count Special Tabulation files released for ftp
