Guide to using jhti databases

1. How to Search a Text Held by the National Institute of Japanese Literature

The following texts are sponsored by the National Institute of Japanese Literature (NIJL), and require a NIJL user id and password. These can be received by emailing us at jhti@berkeley.edu. To learn more about NIJL texts, please follow the links below:

2. How to Search a Text Accessible Only by Password

Contact JHTI at jhti@berkeley.edu to request a password. Please include information on your institutional affiliation. Passwords are generally provided within one week.
The following texts are accessible only by Password:
Kokutai no Hongi
Tokushi yoron

3. How to Use Two Modes: "Retrieval" and "Browse"

For "Retrieval", select either Japanese or English, and then type in the character or string of characters, or the word or string of words, you wish to find and study.
For "Browse", select either Japanese, English, or Both, and then click on the book or books of a text through which you wish to browse.
Since only the English version of the Preface to the Kojiki is on JHTI, you can neither search nor browse the Japanese original.
