HOW TO USE JHTI FOR ELECTRONIC RESEARCH
1. How to Select a Text
Go to the left side of the home page, scrolling down on "Choose one" under "To find a text," and click on the text you wish to use.
For example, if you are interested in Kojiki:
2. How to Search a Text Held by the National Institute of Japanese Literature
On the first page of such a text, click on request for User ID and Password. A page will appear on which a form must be filled out, showing the college or university in which your research will be carried out. Your User ID and Password will be received in about one week.

Contact JHTI at jhti@berkeley.edu to request a password. Please include information on your institutional affiliation. Passwords are generally provided within one week.
The following texts are accessible only by Password:
4. How to Use Two Modes: "Retrieval" and "Browse"
For "Retrieval", select either Japanese or English, and then type in the character or string of characters, or the word or string of words, you wish to find and study.
For "Browse", select either Japanese, English, or Both, and then click on the book or books of a text through which you wish to browse.
Since only the English version of the Preface to the Kojiki is on JHTI, you can neither search nor browse the Japanese original.
