The Humanities have come to mean many different things in their emerging global context. What are humanities institutions and centers -- no matter how they define their mission -- doing? What are their themes, projects, and visions? The Doreen B. Townsend Center for the Humanities at the University of California, Berkeley is proud to sponsor this website database of what's happening in the humanities around the globe. For more information, see the history and plan of the World Humanities Survey. The survey is still expanding as we track down humanities centers around the worldd. If you know of centers that should be included, or have any other suggestions, please send them to ersiv@uclink4.berkeley.edu. To search the database, enter the name of a humanities center, a country, or a topic of interest in the space below. There is also an advanced search form with more options, or you may browse all entries. | On March 12, 1999, the Townsend Center hosted a meeting to discuss the past, present, and future of the humanities. The panel was attended by representatives of several international humanities centers. Brief descriptions of these centers' current projects are included in the World Humanities Project database. For more detailed information, we invite you to explore their web sites, listed below: |
