Santa Cruz: Student Publications
By the mid-1960's, there were two student publications
at Santa Cruz: a newspaper, The Pioneer, which first appeared
on December 10, 1965, and Wildflowers, a nonprofit journal
of student poetry first issued on January 19, 1966.
The Pioneer was "a journal of opinion published
by the students of Cowell College." Subscriptions to The Pioneer
were sold to students, staff, and faculty on a bi-weekly basis.
The Pioneer also derived support from advertising and subscriptions
from Cowell College's affiliates and from the parents of Santa Cruz
students.
Wildflowers was planned to be published
on an irregular schedule.
