Dickens Project

The Dickens project formed in 1981 as a Multicampus Research Unit (MRU). It was headquartered on the UCSC campus, but included the other seven UC undergraduate campuses as well as a number of research institutions outside of the UC-system: City University of New York, the University of Texas at Austin, Stanford University, the University of Southern California, Rice University, Tulane University, New York University, the University of Iowa, Indiana University, MIT, Vanederbilt University, the University of Exeter, and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

The Project sought to study Dickens, his contemporaries in the Victorian era, as well as the social relevancy of his writing. It also began to develop curriculum for teaching Victorian Literature at the secondary and post-secondary level. source
