Marcus, George. Appointed Regent by Governor Davis in December 2000, to a 12-year term expiring March 2012. Committee memberships (2000-01): Grounds and Buildings, Health Services, Investments. Education: Mr. Marcus received his bachelor of arts degree in economics from San Francisco State University. Career: George M. Marcus is the founder and Chairman of The Marcus & Millichap Company, a national commercial real estate brokerage, investment and development company. He also holds the position as Chairman of Essex Property Trust, a New York Stock Exchange Real Estate Investment Trust. In 1999, he received the "Alumnus of the Millennium" award by San Francisco State University. Mr. Marcus is a member of several organizations including The Real Estate Roundtable and the Committee to Rebuild the de Young Museum in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. He serves on the Board of Directors of Greater Bay Bancorp, as well as Bay Area Council.

Miura, Irene, b. July 18, 1939, Santa Cruz, Cal. During the 1997-98 year, she served as a non-voting Regent-designate, then completed a one-year term as ex officio Alumni Regent on June 30, 1999. Education: She received her bachelor's degree in child development and teaching credential from the University of California, Berkeley; her master's degree from the College of Notre Dame; and her Ph.D. in child development from Stanford University. Career: Irene Miura is a professor of child development and Executive Assistant to the President at San Jose State University. Prior to her graduate studies, Ms. Miura was a science and music teacher at a private school. She has taught at San Jose State since 1984 where her research focuses on the influence of language characteristics on children's mathematics understanding and performance.

Career: Velma Montoya is a consultant on educational and regulatory policy. She formerly served as a Commissioner on the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission, a position she was appointed to in 1990 by President Bush. Among the positions she has held are Staff Economist with the Rand Corporation; Assistant Director for Strategy, White House Office of Policy Development; and Director of Studies in Public Policy and Associate Professor at Chapman University School of Business Management. Education: Mr. Moores received a bachelor of science degree in economics from the University of Houston and a juris doctor from the Bates College of Law at the University of Houston. Career: John Moores is the Chairman of the San Diego Padres Baseball Club and of JMI Services, Inc. He is also the Chairman of Peregrine Systems, Inc. and Neon Systems, Inc. He was a member of the Board of Regents of the University of Houston from 1991 to 1994. Mr. Moores founded the River Blindness Foundation and is a trustee of The Carter Center of Emory University in Atlanta. He is also a member of the board of Scripps Research, Inc.

Morrison, Robert C. Ex officio Regent for a one-year term beginning July 1, 2001 for his position as Vice President of the Alumni Associations of the University of California.
