Davies, John G., b. June 28, 1934, San Diego, Cal. Appointed as a Regent by Governor Wilson, 1992-2004. Committee memberships (2000-01): As immediate past Chairman, serves as ex-officio member of all Regents' committees. Education: Mr. Davies graduated from the University of Southern California and Boalt Hall School of Law. Career: John G. Davies serves as of counsel in the law firm of Allen, Matkins, Leck, Gamble & Mallory in San Diego. He served as Judicial Appointments Secretary for Governor Pete Wilson from 1995 to 1999. He previously was a partner in the law firm Morgan Lewis & Bockius. While Wilson was a U.S. Senator, Mr. Davies held the position as chairman of Wilson's federal Judicial Qualifications Committee from 1983 to 1990 and performed the same service for Senator John Seymour in 1991-92. He has served as member and chairman of the San Diego Planning Commission, and as director and president of the Centre City Development Corporation in San Diego.

Davis, Tracy M. Appointed in September 2000 by The Regents to serve as the student Regent for a one-year term beginning July 1, 2001. From September 2000 until July 1, she served as a non-voting Regent-designate. Advisory member to Committees (2000-01): Educational Policy, Grounds and Buildings, Investments. Education: Tracy M. Davis is a doctoral student in higher education and organizational change at UCLA. Ms. Davis received her B.A. degree in anthropology in 1995 and M.A. degree in education in 2000, both from UCLA. Career: From 1997 until her appointment as Regent-designate, she worked as both an outreach and admissions officer and coordinator of student programs in UCLA's Undergraduate Admissions and Relations with Schools Office. From 1995 through 1997, Ms. Davis worked for the Cable News Network in New York and Washington, D.C. within the network's investigative-documentary unit. As an undergraduate and graduate student at UCLA, Ms. Davis has participated in numerous student government, alumni, and civic activities. In 1995, Ms. Davis was awarded the UCLA Chancellor's Service Award.

Denicke, Ernst August, b. July 13, 1840, Hanover, Germany; d. Feb. 9, 1909, Geneva, Switzerland. Ex officio Regent as pres., Mechanics Inst. of S.F., 1896-1900. Career: officer, Union Army, 1861-65; customs inspector, S.F., 1867; large shareholder in Fredericksburg Brewery, San Jose, 1880-90. Served as pres., Central Trust Co., S.F. and dir., several other banks. Retired, 1890.

Career: admitted to N.Y. bar, 1842; N.Y. law practice, 1842-51; gen. agent of Am. Atlantic and Pacific Ship Canal Co.'s enterprise of cutting ship canal across Nicaragua, 1851-53; S.F. law practice, 1853-88. In 1876 recovered $904,000 interest on moneys held by Mexican govt. for Catholic Church of Cal. in first case of intl. arbitration brought before the Arbitration Tribunal of the Hague. Retired, 1890; Shakespearean scholar; wrote history of the "Pious Fund" of Cal.
